Measured Building Surveys
A measured building survey (MBS) defines all the structural elements, architectural features, fittings, services and levels to give an accurate representation of a building or structure. All surveys are carried out to the RICS measured surveys of land, buildings and utility guidelines, along with the client’s own requirements.
Why you need a measured building survey
MBS may be required for refurbishment, renovations, structural monitoring, space planning, planning applications, etc. We have created MBS for a host of different clients and projects, including private dwellings, corporate buildings, heritage sites and infrastructure projects.

Floor Plans
Using state-of-the-art, highly accurate 3D laser scanning technology, Vertex Surveys can create 2D or 3D measured internal floor plans for any building or structure.
We have surveyed floors, basements, roofs, reflective ceiling plans, ceiling voids, existing electrical layouts and many more built spaces.
2D Measured Floorplan Survey Specification
Survey Specification can be amended to specification client requirements.
The accuracy of the data we provide is commensurate to scale in accordance with RICS specification for surveys of land and buildings (ISBM 084506 536 3).
Survey position, datum and orientation are provided to client specification (OSNG, ODN, local grid and datum).
All floors will be interconnected:
- Structures; walls, roof, partitions, stairs, risers, frames, glazing
- Overhead; beams, ceilings, frame, boxing
- Services; toilets, baths, shower, sinks, basins, gullies, inspection covers, rodding eye, meters, fuse boxes, water stop tap, gas
- Levels; ground, floor, all structures and overhead features will have an associated level
- Drainage
Output
- 2D data provided in electronic DWG and PDF format
Survey Specification can be amended to specification client requirements.
Elevations and Street Scenes
Using state-of-the-art, highly accurate 3D laser scanning technology Vertex Surveys can create 2D or 3D measured elevations or street scene facades of any building or structure.
2D Elevation and Cross-Section Specification
The accuracy of the data we provide is commensurate to scale in accordance with RICS specification for surveys of land and buildings (ISBM 084506 536 3).
Survey position, datum and orientation to client specification (OSNG, ODN, local grid and datum)
Elevations
- Building facades; building outline, openings (structural, windows, doors, etc), outline of decorative features (stonework, cornicing, balustrades, etc)
- Roof details; roof lines, chimney parapets, soffits
- Building access; stairs, ramps, fire escapes
- Misc; change of surface (major surface changes, decorative details not shown)
Cross Sections
Using state-of-the-art, highly accurate 3D laser scanning technology, Vertex Surveys can create 2D or 3D measured cross sections or sectional elevations of any building or structure.
These sections show a sliced through view of any structure. This will help the architects and design engineers better understand the internal and external construction details.Â
Sections
These are details to be included that cut through a section:
- Building, walls, ceiling, partition, frames, beams, roof lines, chimneys, parapets, soffits, stairs, ramps
